It's the Freakin' Weekend, Baby

What are all of y'all doing this weekend? Me, I'm going to be kicking ass. Just wanted you to know that no matter how much ass you think you're kicking this weekend, I'm kicking more ass. I'm refereeing my first ever roller derby bout on Saturday! I still might play around with the layering options on my tights, but I think I'm going to wear this:

Sad Clown Faces

The sky was overcast and misty, and I was waiting in vain for my dad to come home to relieve me of my parental duties so that I could go to a special and hella cool roller derby practice in which a league was visiting whose name is ONE LETTER DIFFERENT than my real name. Seriously, how cool is that?! He didn't make it because of the effing mofo'in pinche Toronto rush hour traffic on easter weekend and the fact that we live in cottage country which is where everyone and their dog (literally) wanted to be at the same time. So I'm making sad pouty clown faces like a spoiled princess who didn't get her way.

I did manage to smile again later, darkness doesn't stick to me for very long these days.

White Out

My son saw me wearing this and laughed, then he pointed at me and yelled at his friends on the playground, "Ha! Look at my mom!" He failed to elaborate as to why I looked so funny, but in my opinion it was the shoes. This is my first time wearing an oxford with anything other than pants, coupled with my first time wearing all white. I thought these were the only pair of white shoes I own which is why I grabbed them this morning, but right now I'm sitting here looking at my shoe rack and can see at least three others. I'll have to try this whole white-thing again sometime, it was shocking to me that I didn't end up getting splattered with mud, food, or something child-related.

Skirt: Old Navy, $1.99

Linen Jacket: Old Navy, $2o

Tank: Calvin Klein, $10

Socks: Mommed

Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell

Usually when people show their legs for the first time, they apologise for their whiteness. I'm just going to ignore it for now, this is only the second day of the season that it's been warm enough to show our stems. They'll be back to brown soon enough.

Banged

I have been constantly growing out and recutting my bangs for about three years now. I go through a process of hating them, growing them, then wanting them back so I trim them and then I hate them again. I'm currently in the "hate" stage, but it takes a little while to get them to stop being unruly so I'm still adjusting. I'm going to make them shorter, though. I don't like them when they have to be curled under and hairsprayed as if it were still the 80s but before the tidal wave bangs came into fashion. I'm actually tempted to do the tidal wave just to see if I still how much height I can get on these babies.

Moto, pants, striped tee: Old Navy

Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell

Sunglasses: prescription

I'm pretty sure that I have an unlimited supply of black trousers from Old Navy, only in slightly different leg and back pocket styles and they span three sizes. Seriously, this has to stop. I keep telling myself that I'm going to stay out of that store but then I have to go in to buy things for the children who can't seem to keep the knees in their pants and is it my fault that they put the sale rack next to the little boy's section and they have black trousers for 9 dollars? That store is like thrifting for me!

Dude Looks Like a Lady

Every once in a while I get dressed and think, "Ha! You look like an adult!". Then I feel like a fraud, like the packaging is playing tricks on people which causes me to berate myself for having conversations with my own brain. I wasn't even going anywhere at all, just to the grocery store and to pick up the kids from school. Ooh, and the post office, but that's all.

Silk blouse with princess sleeves: Thrifted $1

Skirt: Winners $8

Boots: Aldo $60

Necklace: Old Navy $2

Earrings: Vintage: Mommed $0

Ring: Gifted

Trouser Socks: I knew I should have dug for the black ones! Pretend you don't see them!

It was warm enough for bare legs this day, and I thought I'd best show them before they get full of bruises from roller derby. It has since snowed again, making me dig out not only the tights but the leggings too. One good thing about Canada is that Easter is a four day affair, so I won't be posting again until the following Tuesday, if I even get dressed at all! Yoga pants are calling my name.

Dress Envy: Marc by Marc Jacobs Colorblock Dress

My jaw dropped when I saw this dress. I love orange in a ridiculous way. I can salivate and daydream about this dress and how it will look against my tanned skin, but I do like being able to pay the bills and mortgage and things of the sort, so this will only happen in my head.

I need to buy a lottery ticket! I don't need to win much, just a little to pad my dress and shoe fund would be nice.

Breaking the Rules

When my dad saw me wearing this dress he said, "Oh. Oh, really!" in a tone that made me think that he wanted to force me to wear a bathrobe over the top of it. I felt good in it which is the most important thing, even though I was trying out that whole "tights and sandals" thing that other bloggers have been doing lately and I always swore I would never do that. Here I am, breaking my own rules and actually liking it. Plus, it got cold again, and we pretty much know that I'm a goofball by now, right?

I should take this time to announce that I didn't love these shoes when I bought them, but I bought them for a song and now they've grown on me. Funny how getting a good deal can make you love something? A great way to spend 30 bucks, if you ask me; shoes are the gift that keeps on giving.

Derby Day!

Last night was my first night of roller derby with my new, brand new league! My old team colours were black and pink, which looks badass but for the new league I wanted a fresh start and decided that I wouldn't wear any pink at all for a while even though most of my derby items are in that stream. One of my derby sisters actually said, "Wow! You are really colour co-ordinated!" In other news, pressing the button on a camera and then skating to where you need to be to get in the frame is hilarious and a real challenge. They should make us do that in drills.

Helmet: Triple Eight

Jacket: Joe

Shorts: Old Navy

Tights: Zellers

Socks: Ardene

Skates: Riedell Diablo

So you want to know my derby name? Cherry Choca Chola, #408. Not that i go around choking out random Mexican girls, it's kind of an inside joke which I will not disclose. ;)

Beware The Open Mouth Poseur

This blogging thing... My gosh, what self-criticism it inspires! If I didn't laugh it off I could just sit here listing off things that are wrong with myself using these photos as evidence! Then I remember that I'm a real person with a real body and no photoshop, and that I'm not going to play that game. Nope.

Shoe of the Month: Bass "Glenbrook"

Yes, we're way into April. I forgot that I started shoe of the month! I don't actually own these... yet. Though I drooled a little when I saw them, and then even more when I saw the price. Ever since I was a little girl I've always loved saddle shoes, and this more grown-up version inspires covetousness in me. On sale right now at Nordstrom! Just saying.

They will be mine soon. I'm giving myself a week to see if the lust wears off, and to see if my imagination can come with any other outfits featuring these shoes that aren't either too Catholic School-Girl or too Gothic Lolita.

This is my "church outfit" from the previous post, just reworked for my shopping and errands that I had to do in the later part of Sunday afternoon.

017

019016020

Scarf: Ardene

Shirt: Joe

Skirt: Winners

Tights: Old Navy

Boots: Doc Martens

Ring: Vintage

I loved this colour combination when I saw this scarf hanging on my coat rack next to a silk bag which is the same colour as my tights. I wanted to replicate it, but there's still enough black to keep me happy! I wore this with my grey moto and the silk bag in question, though I don't have the photographic evidence so you'll have to trust me on that one.

Wolf in Sheep's Clothing

Here I am, dressed for church and trying to appear demure.

Tights, shirt, blazer: Old Navy

Skirt: Winners

Cami: La Senza

Shoes: Guess

Ring: Vintage

I've had this shirt for five years and it's my first time wearing it. I should have taken a picture of the sleeves! The sleeves are cute; maybe next time? After church I had errands and shopping to do, so I changed part of my outfit, which I will post tomorrow.
