What I Should Have Worn

I did learn from my lack of preparedness the last time I refereed in a last minute fill-in situation, and I put together this little number for the next time I have a bout which will be in August. I'm still tweaking it, I'm not supposed to wear any colours at all but I always cheat with my tights and my skates are red. My belt is actually black and white woven straw but it didn't show up in pictures very well. A good excuse to wear it again soon.

Ref Shirt: eBay

Belt: Costa Blanca

Skirt: Decypher Clothing

Tights: Zellers

Socks: Point Zero

Shoes: Iron Fist "Dia de los Muertos"

I hope to test drive a few more looks between now and the bout to determine which is the cutest/most comfortable. Perhaps you all would like to help me determine that as well. As you know, choosing an outfit when you're going to be on display is a major life decision! Okay, not really, but close.

Reffin' Up

This is a profile picture I had taken for our roller derby league's website. We were instructed by the photographer to make mean faces, and I am famous for my snarl. Just ask my ex! Just kidding. (But only sort of!) The good thing about having a blog like this is that I was not nervous at all to be photographed and to get my shots finished it took about 2 minutes total, whereas a lot of the girls were nervous and felt awkward so it took them a little longer to warm up. The photographer was amazing and was a really fun guy, which helped a lot. We all had so much fun! Then we went to practice afterward and sweat all of our makeup off like good little derby girls!

Shirt: part of my uniform

Shorts: Joe

Fishnets: Old Navy

Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell Lita

A lot of people were asking me where I got my shoes, and I was glad to have the photographer feature them prominently when he photoshopped this to play with the light, etc. Jeffrey Campbell makes a great monster platform!

It's the Freakin' Weekend, Baby

What are all of y'all doing this weekend? Me, I'm going to be kicking ass. Just wanted you to know that no matter how much ass you think you're kicking this weekend, I'm kicking more ass. I'm refereeing my first ever roller derby bout on Saturday! I still might play around with the layering options on my tights, but I think I'm going to wear this:

Derby Day!

Last night was my first night of roller derby with my new, brand new league! My old team colours were black and pink, which looks badass but for the new league I wanted a fresh start and decided that I wouldn't wear any pink at all for a while even though most of my derby items are in that stream. One of my derby sisters actually said, "Wow! You are really colour co-ordinated!" In other news, pressing the button on a camera and then skating to where you need to be to get in the frame is hilarious and a real challenge. They should make us do that in drills.

So you want to know my derby name? Cherry Choca Chola, #408. Not that i go around choking out random Mexican girls, it's kind of an inside joke which I will not disclose. ;)

Day 9: Derby Day

Last night was my last night of roller derby for the 2010 season, and now I have to wait until spring of 2011 to get back on skates!  I celebrated/mourned the end of season by hanging out in my derby "boutfit" all day.  Normally I feel awkward taking my pictures every day and you can see it all over my face.  This picture cracks me up because I didn't feel awkward but... look what happened:

Photobomb!

Shirt:  Uniform

Booty Shorts:  Old Navy

Tights:  American Apparel, Joe and Ardene

Socks:  Ardene

Arm warmers:  DIY

Raddest skates in the universe:  Riedell Diablo

Photobombers:  My spawn

Then of course I had a parent-teacher interview at school...  So I decided to change into something a little more mainstream.  I kept the tights on, if only because they're so damn hard to squeeze in and out of when you wear three pairs at once.  Four if you count the DIY arm warmers.

Jacket:  Smart Set

Tank:  Calvin Klein

Skirt: F21

Tights:  See above

Boots:  Aldo

The season may have just ended, but I'm looking forward to what the next few months will bring.  So exciting!
