Day 27: Give Me Your Tears, Gypsy Woman!

When is a dress not a dress? When it's a skirt. It's a good thing I didn't have to take off my jacket this day, because there wasn't much going on underneath there!

055

This was the point at which I saw our infamous town cyclist pass by on his bicycle, in -30 degree weather:
056

And here I am trying not to laugh at said town cyclist:
054

Scarf: Thrifted
Jacket, both skirts: Old Navy
Boots: George
Tights: Payless
Necklace: Two bracelets joined to make a necklace

Seriously, cycling in minus 30 degree weather for leisure and not for exercise purposes is CRAZY. Especially the slush mark you get from your tail to your head. You know the one. ;)

Day 26: Reppin' the KDG

This is me reppin' my roller derby team. While attending our annual Naughty or Nice Holiday party, my sister asked me about someone and I pointed and said, "Oh, she's over there in the fancy little dress... with the toque!" I need to wear a fancy little dress with a toque when I finish with this challenge! Or, um... "beanie" for all you Americans, and "stocking cap" for those of you back home in Newfoundland.

Toque: KDG

Sweater: Gap

Button down: Old Navy

Pants: The Bay

Booties: Jeffrey Campbell

Necklace: Inherited

Rings: Mommed and found

It seems I'm forever destined to alternate between goofy or awkward. I'll have to embrace it: it's just me.

Day 25: Is Your Mother Home?

I was reminiscing about high school the other day, so I decided that I'd dress like I used to in high school. Flares, ugly shoulder bag, Docs and some kind of statement t-shirt were my go-to items. So I wore this, and while we were having dinner a guy came to the door and asked if my parents were home when he saw me. My children giggled in the background as I made my voice sound more child-like and said, "No, I'm sorry." Do I look like a rebellious 31 year old teenager to you?

003

How about now?

020

But certainly not now. Lolz!

Shirt, Jeans: Joe

Boots: Doc Martens

Bag: Old Navy

Necklace, Bracelets: Thrifted, gifted, Old Navy

Babies really are the greatest fashion accessory!

Day 24: Football!

My dad was making fun of me for lounging around the house watching football on a Sunday while wearing a dress and a giant scarf. There is nothing more cosy than a dress with ribbed leggings! Whoever invented ribbed leggings, I give you mad props. Those things are warm! Especially when paired with my sweater boots, which don't see the light of day, I swear! I just swapped them out for the photos.

Dress: Old Navy

Scarf: I've had it forever but I want to say Smart Set?

Leggings: Ardene

Socks: Zellers

Boots: George

Belt: Le Chateau

Ring: Babydaddy'd

A dress like this is perfect for lounge wear. Despite the fact that my scarf looks like it's choking me, don't I look toasty?

Fashion Resolutions for the New Year

This has taken me a long time to come up with, but it's required some thought. I'm not a person who does well with rules. I can't help it, when there are rules I have some kind of perverse obsession with bending or breaking them. So these aren't rules, they're just going to be guidelines. Things that I'm going to try to do, but I'm not going to freak out if I don't.

- Shop less. I truly need to keep my a$$ out of Old Navy just because it's so cheap. I end up buying bags full of stuff that I won't necessarily wear. I'm going to try to limit my shopping for cheap stuff and use that money instead for fewer yet better quality items.

- Thrift more. I believe in thrifting like I believe in recycling but without the all-consuming passion. Truthfully though, it's hard for me to get over my stuck-up ideas about wearing some bitch's old stuff that she didn't want. Crazy? Yes, but I'm working on it. Somehow in high school when I would thrift all the time and wear stuff that quite possibly had been worn by some real live dirty hippie, this didn't bother me at all. I should also add something in here about buying every item of acid-washed clothing that I see in thrift stores and destroying it so that the crimes against humanity can be lessened. I'll see what I can do about that.

- Set some kind of budget and then actually stick to it. I have no idea how much I spend on frivolous items every month. I don't have a shopping/spending addiction (or do I?), but part of being a "real" adult is taking care of these things, and knowing what's coming in versus what's going out.

- Stay away from Ebay for now, or any online retailer. My goodness, I would be so productive if I did even half the amount of "monitor shopping" that I do now.

- Keep the credit card balance at zero so that I can actually use it for stuff. I'm using the same one that I got while in university and the credit limit is only $500. It's good that I don't have much debt, but bad that when I want to buy things sometimes I can't use my card. Someday I might even need it for emergencies.

- Create a list of items that I would like in order to expand my wardrobe, then try to focus on buying just those items and avoiding impulses. I will work on this more at a later date. Hopefully it won't be too long, I'm feeling quite covetous now with all of these "guidelines" flying around. This is the most important one, I think.

- Stop buying more clothes for roller derby! One can only own so many pairs of fishnets. I need to remember that I don't have to buy things just because they are in my team colours, though yes I do know that hot pink, black and white stuff is totally badass.

- Shop more locally, or on Etsy. This should be self-explanatory! Support locally-owned and handmade items. I've bought a lot of things on Etsy over the past three years and my love for the site has not diminished at all.

What are some of your "Fashion Resolutions" for this year?

Day 23: New Tripod

This is the first set of pictures taken with my new tripod. Hopefully now I can start taking pictures in some more interesting locations!

Fedora: Ardene

And! My Jeffrey Campbell Litas

This outfit was boring, so I added the grey pinstriped fedora. Instantly more interesting, don't you think?

Day 22: Black and White and Red All Over

I wore this to go grocery shopping. Grocery shopping without kids is my idea of heaven. I manage to get everything I need, I can read labels, I don't rush, and I don't care about trying to find the shortest line. Usually I let senior citizens or other people with children go ahead of me. Bliss.

015

Still learning how to play with Picnic:

Hat: Ardene

Pants, both blouses, pants: Old Navy

Sweater, belt: George

Boots: Doc Martens

Handbag: Le Chateau, thrifted

It looks like that spider plant is trying to attack me. Probably because after 8 years of me consciously neglecting it, it's coming for its revenge. I can't keep a plant alive to save my life but this one just. doesn't. die.

Day 21: Warning: Bad Blackberry Photo

I tried not to blind you with my mirror flash by making myself into a queen. The camera was dead so I tried to use my Curve and a mirror. I should have just waited.

Crown: Picnik (lol)

Jacket: Smart Set

Shirt, cami: Old Navy

Pants: The Bay

Boots: Doc Martens

I'll try harder next time, I swear. ;)

Day 20: Big Hair

I usually hate the curls, but this day I just felt like I needed big hair.

Xmas 031

Xmas 027

Jacket: Smart Set

Headband: Ardene

Shirt: Joe

Skirt: Old Navy

Tights: Joe

I think I like it better when I don't smile at all; it's not so fake. What do you think?

Day 19: Flashy

This skirt always annoys me because it's too long. So why not just hike it up and wear it as a dress?

Xmas 011

Why not? Because maybe it's a little too short, that's why. Which I didn't notice until 1) I realised I was flashing my a$$ at the drug store; and 2) I uploaded these pictures.

Xmas 014

But look at my studded leggings! They saved me from a wardrobe malfunction that could possibly have been mortifying. That is, if I had any shame. ;)

Xmas 016

Shirt: Joe

Skirt worn as dress: Old Navy

Leggings: Ardene

Boots, belt: Aldo

Bracelets: I wore a bunch of them but only after I'd taken the photos!

Everyone has a butt, right? So it doesn't matter if it falls out of your skirt all. the. time. like mine does. Heh. Thank goodness I have a modest nine year old who tells me, "Mom, your skirt is caught up on your butt again!"

Day 18: What a Hiatus!

Seriously, I am lagging on this project so much. Perhaps because I'm not a fashion blogger? Heh. Anyhow, I have a lot of photos stored in my Flickr that are just begging to be posted so I can get moving again and tidy my room! My 30 for 30 stuff has been on a free-standing closet wrack for nearly forever! Organisation is my new motivation.

042

We were acting all goofy this day. This is me, jumping into the frame before the timer goes off, or the half-naked preschooler photobombs me.

047

Making faces:

055

Sweater: Bluenotes

Shirt: Old Navy

Jeans: Joe

Hot shoes: Jeffrey Campbell (still in love!)

Rings: Random ones I've had forever

Hopefully this is a sign that I'm getting back on track.
